Everyone sat patiently waiting for the announcement to be made. The team had been working and practicing all year for this and it was finally here. The announcer starts talking and he finally announces the winner. On April 2018, the Bush NJROTC won first overall NJROTC program in the state of Texas. On this new school year, the team is hoping to do it again, and Platoon Commander, Khairat Alabi hopes so too.

Khairat Alabi, a junior, has been in the ROTC program for three years, and with hard work and dedication, she has reached the position as Platoon Commander. It all started when she saw the team perform for the first time.

“I saw them perform once and it sparked an interest. It looked cool the way they were moving and how uniform they were,”she said.

After being in the program for a long time, Khairat has seen the program grow every new school year with people who are excited to learn more about the program.

“The recruits look very excited and very eager to learn about the program,” she said.

With all of her hard work and dedication that Khairat has shown, she has been able to accomplish many things for herself. One of her greatest accomplishments was becoming a Platoon Commander.

“My greatest accomplishment has been becoming a Platoon Commander. It’s my greatest accomplishment because it took a lot of dedication to get there and it’s rewarding,” she said.

Khairat hopes to impact the team and to leave her mark. She wants to enjoy these final years with her ROTC family by making memories, helping others, and accomplishing more things.
