On Wednesday, December 5th 2018, twenty-two of the Bush NJROTC cadets and the 3 naval instructors were invited to the arrival of the remains of the late president George H. W. Bush, our namesake, at the Ellington Airport. They got a tour of the Ellington command center while waiting for the plane to land. They got to witness a once in a lifetime opportunity, from seeing the late president’s casket to seeing important political figures.

Gene Rodil, junior, thought it was unexpected and overwhelming.

“We were very grateful and fortunate to have witnessed such a historical event,” Rodil said, “It was interesting to see everyone else there with different backgrounds, and it was cool to see all the different celebrities and politicians.”

Daniela Perez, senior, had an unforgettable experience.

“The experience was such an honor to be a part of,” Perez said, “It was something special and it was like looking at history in the making. The most memorable thing was watching Bush’s casket drive by.”
